Vanilla doesn’t haven’t to equal super sugary sweet. Extracts and flavored milks are a great way to accomplish this without loading up on excess calories.

Serves 1

Ingredients

1 cup frozen berries, strawberries, raspberries, mixed berries
1/2 cup vanilla protein powder
1/2 cup unsweetened, vanilla flavored coconut milk or vanilla flavored almond milk or kefir
4 ice cubes
2 tablespoons ground flax or chia seeds
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Place all ingredients in a blender along with 1/2 cup water and process until smooth. Serve immediately.

Note: If you’re using Greek yogurt, add an additional 1/4 cup water

Swaps and Substitutions

  • Swap the coconut milk, almond milk or kefir for low-fat milk
  • Swap almonds for ground flax or hemp seeds

2 cups: 378 calories. 30 g protein, 29 g carbohydrates, 18 g fat (3 g saturated), 5 mg cholesterol, 11 g fiber, 96 mg sodium.
